NSW Government ends Tcard trial and terminates
contract with project developer
The NSW Government announced it has terminated its contract with the developers of the Tcard and that the Tcard bus trial will cease.
The 106 people who are currently involved in the trial will have the balance on their cards refunded by the Public Transport Ticketing Corporation (PTTC).
Nothing changes for school students who use Tcard on school buses in Sydney. All students can continue to use their paper bus passes.
The PTTC will work with an expert group from across Government to begin scoping out next steps for a new system and report back in mid 2008. The group will comprise officers from the PTTC, Ministry of Transport, Department of Premier and Cabinet, Treasury and an independent advisor.
The PTTC is working to minimise disruption as a result of the decision. This includes:
-
Tcard bus trial will cease. All participants in the Tcard trial will have their balances fully refunded.
- Interim School Student Transport System – For Term 1, 2008, there will be no change for school children who will continue to travel on the buses using their Tcards and existing paper bus passes. The PTTC will advise all schools and bus operators of new arrangements. Students or their parents who have concerns or queries should ring the 131 500 Transport Infoline.
-
STA Kingsgrove depot buses and Punchbowl buses which were involved in the commuter trial will meet with the PTTC and Ministry of Transport from today to discuss transitional arrangements, but no passenger will be refused travel due to technical problems with the equipment.
The NSW Government remains committed to delivering an integrated ticketing system for Sydney and the PTTC will remain as the agency to deliver a system.
